Meet Designer Lauren Monteagudo from Au79

When it comes to jewelry a girl can't have enough. For me I love the thought of a sentimental piece, but with most of my items being off-the wall purchases I confess when I spot something different it usually comes home with me. So when I came across Au79 last week I couldn't help but fall in love.

Once I started reading about Au79 I had to find out who the lovey lady behind this wonderful jewelry line was. Lauren Monteagudo is her name & even better she just happens to be from Miami (so yes I adore Au79 even MORE!) The jewelry line, smart yet stylish, is a representation of its customer, a true opportunist who achieves her own goals and enjoys the finer things in life. This brand can be worn by all women who know the value of themselves and know that nothing but the best is the only option.

So I had to ask my Designer Fill-in-Blanks, this lady was too cool to pass up!

First thing I do when I wake up is, twitter!

“Regardless of your profession, it matters what you stand for,” Monteagudo said. “From the doctor wearing it under her scrubs, to the hot, young PR girl working the red carpet, to the fashionista layering tons of bracelets for dinner and drinks with the girls.”

My inspiration comes from my goals
Summer or winter? Summer
My desk drawer is full of pens
I can’t leave home without my Ray bans
There is always receipts in my purse.

Always risk, Never lose

Au79’s signature symbol is the shovel. The unique shovel charm, available in each collection, represents empowerment and strength. It is a symbol for women who work hard and get their own hands dirty to dig up what they want. Au79 is for the go-getter not the gold-digger.

The symbol is reflected in necklaces, bracelets and rings with the double-finger shovel ring highest in demand.

“She’s not sitting around waiting for things to happen,” Monteagudo said. “She’s out there making them happen.”

The Opportunist Collection features 12 select pieces retailing from $300 to $2000. For more information on Au79 please visit http://www.thegoldshovel.com/ - let them know you read it on RiveMagazine.

Fashion: Cool Shades Tape

UK designers, Azumi and David sell 100% clear vinyl packing tape with printed black sunglasses ( jockey & supermodel or architect & intellectual model); which state on their website that can be used to accessorize clothing or for packaging. Although, they state it is not recommended that the tape be applied directly to the body; we think it looks that much cooler. Buy these and other unique accessories at azumianddavid.com

Fashion: The Future of Clothing

Designers have been trying to predict future fashion since the turn of the 20th century. Below are two clips; the first being from the 1930's in which they try to foresee fashion in A.D 2000. It's quite hilarious although towards the end about men's fashion is quite interesting and somewhat true. The second clip, for their 75th anniversary, Lacoste invites you to imagine how tennis will be played in 2083.

Art: U-Tube Candlestick & Oil Lamp

In these uncertain times designer, Sander Mulder went back to basics, and inspired by the seemingly endless creative challenges of the hardware store, U-tube sprouted to life.

Hommage to global industrial archetypes, this tubular design is available in an oil-lamp or a candlestick version. The split arms allow for easy conversation while enjoying the soothing glow of this stunning centerpiece. Its use of heavyweight and over-sized materials, sturdy powder coated finish and the lack of electrical parts, make this light virtually everlasting! -- Source

After decades of designing for it girls like Edie Sedgwick, rock stars like John Cale from The Velvet Underground, and most importantly, thousands of girls around the world, Fashion designer Betsey Johnson may be performing her final cartwheel following her Spring 2010 runway presentation this September. Betsey stated that: Eric Sartori, who has designed for Vera Wang,Hervé Léger, and Azzedine Alaïa is "the one". "He's much better than I am." "He just has to Betsey-fy himself." Welcome to the dollhouse, Eric Satori!

Fashion: Suno Fall 2009

On January 22, 2009, Designers Max Osterweis took us on a trip to Kenya and judging by his latest collection he will continue to do so--he did spend a decade searching for fabrics. The collection is made up of woven hats, ethnic prints, and surprisingly not just the typical ankara skirt. The brand seems to reminiscent of Manish Arora and Louis Vuitton Spring 2009. we'd gladly take the trip to Africa for these prints but luckily you can find these pieces in New York and Los Angeles. M.I.A next red carpet ensemble perhaps?

Fashion: The Rebirth Of The Jacobean Era?

No, not exactly though this pair of Bruno Frisoni's strappy pumps slightly resemble the collars worn by James the first during the Jacobean era with a modern take on the fashions from the 1600s.

Fashion: La China Loca

La China Loca is a milliner (hat designer) based in New York City. Nurtured by the warm glow of television; she found herself immersed in film noir, classic western, kung fu and old mobster cinema. These early experiences became aesthetic inspirations. La China bought her first felt hat when she was a student studying fashion in NYC. It was an electric blue bowler that excited her senses and sparked her fascination. After over a decade, she has returned to feverishly bringing her visions into elegant reality. Rive Magazine met up with La China Loca at her design studio to discuss some of her favorite pieces; video below. Her designs are stunning, fresh and highly unique while still using traditional foundations. Shop at: lachinaloca.com

According to Jeremy Scott, it's a jungle out there! His latest collaboration with Adidas includes leopard print harem pants(for men) paired with a matching top, a tiger print sweatsuit(it's grrreat and we think Tony would agree.) the zebra and leopard pattern will also appear on shorts, tops, and in addition sneakers with wings(get ready because your wardrobe is being taken to new heights.) Whether these pieces are your style or not, we guarantee you'll feel like the King of the Jungle.

Fashion: From Stilettos To Sneakers

On April 7, 2009, Christian Louboutin's leopard print high top was unveiled, now Stefano Pilati is following in his footsteps with a high top of his own(with the help of Puma). Though the sneaker is for men, it resembles the "biker chic" of his Fall 2009 collection.Colorways include black leather or gray suede, purchase them at Yves Saint Laurent boutiques or if your in the U.S online only. So one might have to ask: Is a fashion evolution upon us? Will sneakers dominate the Spring runways this September?--I for one, certainly hope not.

If you’re anything like me ladies, your purse is probably close in weight to a small dog. You carry not only a purse but some kind of ‘tote’ bag to work daily. Then you can’t forget the gym bag you have in your car. How do we do it? 500 items in 10 different places, it’s no wonder we misplace our car keys on a routine basis. And men, don’t worry I got you covered too. Headed the gym? We all know those gym shorts don’t have pockets. Try this out for those afternoon runs or days at the beach.

I happened to stumble upon this website over the weekend, and I think it could be the answers to all my problems. Maybe not all my problems but defiantly my car key issue.

It’s a multi functional sash that holds mobile phones, ipods, keys, money, and all those things which otherwise fill up pockets or get lost in the daily shuffle. bandee:s come in a huge variety of colors and designs to suit pretty much all tastes.

This basic blue style is on its way to my mailbox as we speak. You can shop online by visiting bandee shop

Fashion: Dutzi Handbags & Meeting Ariane Dutzi

Lately we have a new light when it comes to buying our purchases, if possible we buy 'green'. And although the perfect tote is hard to come by, we're lucky in finding an organic burlap tote. When we came across Dutzi—a line of light-weight, ready-for-anything totes, we had to know who the OZ-like person was that finally figured out how to get accessory essential numero uno 100% right. It just so happens that she has an amazing story, so we had her indulge us with a little show-n-tell:

Designer, Ariane Dutzi, hires Mayan craftswomen from the Yucatan to craft the bags. "The bags are all handmade by Indigenous people, mainly women, here in the Yucatan. Not only I wanted to design beautiful bags with recycled material, but I also want to make a difference by giving Mayan women to opportunity to make money by respecting their traditions and skills. I didn't want to make or design just another bag. I am convinced that fashion too can make a difference. Respect for our environment and respect for people. Giving these women jobs allows them to provide for their kids, gives them an education and gives these women some independence."

Hoping to get to know Ariane a little better, we had her fill out some fashion fill-in-the-blanks!

First thing I do when I wake up is, to drink a cup of very strong, black coffee.
My favorite spot in my house is my bed.
Growing up my nickname was...didn’t have one, but got one much later which is Ari.
My comfort food is mashed potatoes and meatloaf.
I feel my best when I walk on the beach at sunset.

My biggest splurge: inviting my friends to a very good dinner and/or buying myself nice shoes. My cheapest find: the antique furniture for my house.
Color I wear the most white.
When I am sick I, want be left alone, but please bring me some chicken soup!!
My first job was a fashion editor for German magazines.
I am originally from Germany, but lived in Paris and New York, before I moved to the Yucatan in Mexico, where I live now.
I have my memories forever.
My closet is full of clothes.
Life and my Jack Russells make me smile always.

The last book I read was Pride and Prejudice, the best book Faust.
Underwear? Yes, only French lingerie…
Ideal dinner party guests: my closest friends who know me well. Sometimes too well. But this way we have the most fun.
Birthday (no year required) November 29th.
Best vacation spot Tulum, Mexico in the winter and the Mediterranean in the summer : Italy, France, Spain, and Greece… you name it.
Shoe size: 38
Best color combo; I love color, therefore I have many color combinations I like: Orange and yellow, blue and yellow, pink and red, pink and white, blue and green … just look at the colors of the straps I use for my bags and you know exactly what I mean.
Favorite piece of jewelry: my amber necklace.
Sweet or salty? Salty

You can also choose from raffia bags, felt and even lace. The lace bags are pricier, however, because it takes a craftswoman more than a week to create. The bags cost from $60 on up. For more information, check out her Website or email Ariane Dutzi at adutzi@mac.com.
